What Else Labs Gaming

We make the games we want to play.

An independent game studio based in Japan. We're small on purpose — it means we can take the time a game actually needs, cut what isn't working, and ship when it's good rather than when a quarter ends.

Games

In development.

Our first title is being built right now. Details as soon as there's something worth showing.

Project 01 · in development

Something we'd want to play ourselves.

Early days — we're prototyping, throwing out the parts that don't earn their place, and keeping the ones that surprise us. When there's a name, a trailer and a date, they'll land here first.

How we build

Small team, sharp scope.

Three things we hold to, because they're why we went independent in the first place.

Play first

If it isn't fun in a grey box, no amount of art will save it. The prototype has to earn the production.

Finish things

A tight game that ships beats an ambitious one that doesn't. We'd rather cut scope than cut quality.

Build in the open

Devlogs, rough edges and all. You'll see what we're wrestling with while we're still wrestling with it.

Independent, and intending to stay that way.

What Else Labs Gaming is the games wing of What Else Labs, based in Japan. No publisher deadlines and no committee notes — which means the only thing a game has to justify is itself. We'd rather make something smaller that we're proud of than something bigger we're not.

Come along for the build.

We'll send word when there's a title to announce, a demo to play, or a devlog worth your time.
